An Original Vintage Linenbacked English World War II Poster (measures 20" x 30 1/4" [51 x 77 cm]) (Learn More) Never Was So Much Owed By So Many To So Few, the 1940 English World War II (WWII) poster featuring the famous quote by Prime Minster Winston Churchill, and an image of five uniformed airmen. While the quote was a tribute to the fighter pilots of the Battle of Britain, the airmen featured actually belonged to a bomber crew. However, by picturing these sergeant-pilots, as opposed to commissioned officers, the message of the poster was clear; the victory of 1940 was won through the efforts and sacrifices of the Royal Air Force as a whole. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster was folded once in each direction and it had some tiny bits of paper loss on both folds. It had a diagonal tear in the center of the image, running from the horizontal fold 1" to the right of the middle airman's head down through his cheek, through his uniform, and into the hand in the vertical fold. It also had some stains scattered in the top half of the vertical fold and in the top blue background area. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but you can see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects. Learn More about condition grades
