Date Sold 3/12/2017Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Tri-Folded Twenty-Four-Sheet Movie Poster (24sh; measures approximately 9' x 20') (Learn More) Return of the Jedi (now known as "Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi"), the classic 1983 Richard Marquand outer space science fiction (sci-fi) action adventure epic sequel ("Return to a galaxy far, far away!"; "The Saga Continues"; "The movie everyone's been waiting for!"; written and produced by George Lucas) starring Mark Hamill (as Luke Skywalker), Harrison Ford (as Han Solo), Carrie Fisher (as Princess Leia), Billy Dee Williams (as Lando Calrissian), Anthony Daniels ("as C-3PO"), David Prowse (as the man in the Darth Vader suit), Kenny Baker (as R2-D2), Peter Mayhew (as Chewbacca), Frank Oz (as the voice of Yoda), James Earl Jones (as the voice of Darth Vader), and Alec Guinness (as Obi-Wan Kenobi) NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Kazuhiko Sano Important Added Info: Note that in the 1980s, studios were printing fewer and fewer non-one-sheet sized posters (they were phasing out inserts and half-sheets, and instead of three-sheets and six-sheets, they were printing vinyl banners, which were much more sturdy). That has always made the three-sheets and six-sheets on this title far more rare than those from the first two Star Wars movies (Episode IV and V). The fact that this 24-sheet survives is nothing short of amazing, because surely, far fewer of these were made than for the previous Star Wars movies (and we have never auctioned this poster before, and likely never will again)! Because printing technology had advanced by 1986, three-sheets were printed on a single sheet, six-sheets were printed on two sheets, and this twenty-four sheet was printed in 6 sections (designed to overlap). This was a big plus, because 24-sheets were first printed in 24 sections and later 12 sections, but that meant lots of pieces overlapping, which gave more opportunity for tears in the borders, and possibilities of printing mismatches! Also note that this poster needs to be sent in an oversized flat package, which measures roughly 16" x 40" x 2", so it will cost more to send than items that fit in our standard flat packages, especially if they are sent to non-U.S. addresses. Finally, note that this is one of a remarkable collection of ELEVEN 24-sheets we are currently auctioning, and they are from 1957 to 1986, years that you would not expect ANY 24-sheets to have survived from, and they include first release 24-sheets from both Star Wars and Return of the Jedi, which are surely in the handful of most rare Star Wars posters there are! This is an incredibly rare opportunity to add any of these eleven posters to your collection! Condition: very good to fine. The poster was printed in just 6 sections (see above). This means that it has far fewer folds than older 24-sheets, which were printed in 12 sections (or 24 sections for really older 24-sheets). The poster almost surely was never used, and it is in REALLY nice condition, with just some very minor wear (see our image). We can't imagine another example of this poster surviving in better condition! Learn More about condition grades
