An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Window Card Movie Poster (WC; measures 14" x 22") (Learn More) Wolf Song, the 1929 Victor Fleming romantic cowboy western (Cooper is a fur trapper who has great success with women, but then he falls hard for beautiful Mexican Lupe Velez, and her father disapproves, and he goes off with her, abandoning her for a while to be with his fur trapper pals, but then he returns in the nick of time to rescue her from an Indian leader!) starring Gary Cooper, Lupe Velez, Louis Wolheim, Constantine Romanoff, and Michael Vavitch. Note that Cooper was notorious for having affairs with almost all of his female co-stars in his early movies, and he had a particularly notorious affair with Velez during the making of this movie! An odd bit of trivia is that the movie contained a very brief full-frontal nude shot of Gary Cooper that was quite controversial at the time! Also note that this movie was silent, but by the time it was released, "talking" movies were all the craze, so three songs were added to the movie (two sung by Velez, and one sung by Russ Columbo), so that Paramount could advertise the movie as being "sound". This means the poster was backed onto a paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (except somewhat heavier). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards, and lobby cards. Condition: good. The poster had pinholes, creases, tears, and some areas of paper loss around the edges of the poster and some creases, smudges, scuffs, and a few pinholes scattered throughout the image, including in both stars' heads. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to paperbacking. The poster was well backed by a talented restorer, who did SOME touch up to the smudges and scuffs scattered through the poster, but did not do extensive touch up (and I agree with that decision, because to do so would have required lots of paint, which would have given the poster a "heavily restored" look, and I don't feel the smudges and scuffs are all that distracting, and they help establish that this is a genuine 79 year-old original poster!). Obviously, one would prefer to find an example of this window card that had no defects or restoration, but I do not know if another example of this card exists (or if it does, if the owner would consider parting with it!). This card has had expert restoration and displays nicely. Learn More about condition grades
