Date Sold 8/16/2018Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Mini Window Card Movie Poster (WC; measures 8" x 13 1/2" [20 x 34 cm]) (Learn More) The Maltese Falcon, the classic 1941 John Huston romantic detective crime film noir ("A story as explosive as his blazing automatics"; "Based on the novel by Dashiell Hammett, Author of 'The Thin Man'"; "Screen Play by John Huston"; nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award) starring Humphrey Bogart (as Sam Spade), Mary Astor (as Brigid O'Shaughnessy), Gladys George (as Iva Archer), Peter Lorre (as Joel Cairo), Barton MacLane (as Lt. Dundy), Lee Patrick (as Effie), Sydney Greenstreet (nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film; as Kasper Gutman), Ward Bond (as Tom Polhaus), Jerome Cowan (as Miles Archer), and Elisha Cook Jr. (as Wilmer Cook, the "gunsel"). Note that this was the SECOND re-make of this movie (it had been made in 1931 under the original title, and in 1936 as "Satan Met a Lady", starring Bette Davis in the lead role, but it was THIS version by John Huston, with his screenplay that closely followed the Dashiell Hammett novel, with superlative acting, which is an all-time classic) Note that some of the U.S. posters for this movie used images of Bogart from the 1941 film "High Sierra" (the same is true of some posters for "All Through the Night"!). Note that in all three of these movies (The Maltese Falcon, All Through the Night, and High Sierra), Humphrey Bogart only got the lead part because George Raft turned down the lead in all three! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this mini window card, which has the same image as the one-sheet (as noted above, both posters use an image of Bogart from "High Sierra", because they had no clue that this movie would be a major classic!). This mini window card can likely be purchased for much less money, and will still look incredible on the new owner's wall! Also note that this poster has been trimmed and it now measures 8" x 13 1/2" [20 x 34 cm]. Condition: good to very good. The bottom border of the mini window card was neatly trimmed off, and the small writing in the bottom 1/2" was lost, but none of the image or credits. It also had a tear in the lower left extending into Astor's shoulder, and some faint smudges and faint dot stains around the edges. Someone mounted the card onto a backing board (no doubt to put it in a frame), and they also put blank paper in the bottom 1/2" so that it is now the correct size, but they did not attempt to recreate the missing tiny writing that was in that bottom 1/2". Certainly, one could have restoration performed, but I would think the vast majority of collectors would be happy to display this mini window card on their wall just as it is!
