An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Three-Sheet Movie Poster (measures 41" x 81") (Learn More) Smiling Hate, the 1924 Roy Calnek silent black African American gold mine prospecting romantic western melodrama (about an owner of a gold mine who has his son and his future son-in-law help find out who is stealing from his mine; along the way, his son falls in love with a pretty canteen girl; interestingly, the son is assisted by a twisted deformed creature known as "Smiling Hate"; at the end of the movie, it is discovered that Smiling Hate is not actually twisted and deformed, but is actually another gold mine owner who had been ruined by the same thieves, and it turns out that the intended future son-in-law is actually the leader of the thieves!; produced by Roy Calnek from Superior Art Motion Pictures Inc; "A feature melodrama with an ALL COLORED CAST") starring Harry Henderson, Josephine Talley, Howard Augusta, William Milton, William Clayton, Ethel Smith, and Will Lee If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that I have never seen or heard of a single poster or lobby card from this completely forgotten 1924 silent black African-American western! If anyone is aware of ANY other original movie paper, please e-mail me and I will post it here. Condition: very good. The poster had a 1" x 1/2" area of paper loss in the upper part of the vertical foldline (fortunately in the green background between the two men). There were creases, tears, and small areas of paper loss in many other foldlines. There were creases, smudges, tears, and some small areas of paper loss around the edges of the poster. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was really expertly backed. The exact areas of defects detailed above were expertly repaired (you can see them from inches away, but from any distance away, they are not very noticeable at all), and the poster in no way has a heavily restored look to it. I would think any collector of black African-American movie paper would love to have this very rare (and quite likely unique) poster displayed in a collection! Learn More about condition grades
