An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Style B One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 26 1/4" x 39 3/4" [67 x 101 cm]) (Learn More) City Streets, the 1931 Rouben Mamoulian romantic crime film noir ("She wanted a racketeer sweetheart and she got it!"; "He invites Gangland's machine guns with a laugh!"; poor but honest Gary Cooper turns dishonest and takes over the rackets, he has a romance with Sylvia Sidney, but in an unusual twist, she is crazy about him, and he's lukewarm about her) starring Gary Cooper, Sylvia Sidney, Paul Lukas, Wynne Gibson, William 'Stage' Boyd, Stanley Fields, and Guy Kibbee NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this poster has no blank borders, but it has NOT been trimmed. This is something Paramount did from part of 1928 through part of 1931, printing their posters with a "full bleed", meaning the solid borders ran all the way to the edge of the poster, and the small writing at the bottom is within the color area, because there is no white area beneath it. This printing method was abandoned after a short time (probably because printers at the time had difficulty printing with a full bleed). It would not be until around 1990 that printers would again print movie posters with a full bleed! This particular poster measures 26 1/4" x 39 3/4" (but as I said above, it was not printed larger than that or with blank borders). We have seen other examples of this poster identified as measuring 27" x 41", but that is absolutely incorrect. Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. The poster had numerous defects. It had a diagonal tear running from the bottom crossfold through the middle of the nose of the man at lower right, and curving up to the right of his eye. It also had paper loss in the top right corner affecting the right half of Sidney's credit and extending down into the black background at right, affecting two of the windows and ending slightly below the right end of the top foldline. There were some pinholes and tears around the edges and some scattered in the poster, with some stains scattered in the bottom quarter of the poster. Overall, the poster was in fair to good condition prior to linenbacking. However, the poster was nicely backed, and it displays well, and I think most people would not get a sense of it having much restoration unless they stood quite close to it.
