An Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Half-Sheet Movie Poster (1/2sh; measures 22" x 28" [56 x 71 cm]) (Learn More)

Night Flight, the 1933 Clarence Brown Rio de Janeiro Brazil airplane aviation adventure melodrama ("From the 1931 Prix Femina novel by Antoine de Saint Exupery"; "Only Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer could do it!"; about an outbreak of polio in Brazil, and the only way to get the vaccine to those who need it is by airplanes over high mountains during bad weather, but daring pilots volunteer to fly the mission; this movie surely has one of the greatest all-star casts ever assembled, including many of MGM's best stars from that period, and we suspect that MGM was trying to replicate its great success of the previous year with that all-star movie, Grand Hotel, hoping this would be a sort of "Grand Hotel in the air"!) starring John Barrymore, Helen Hayes, Clark Gable, Lionel Barrymore, Robert Montgomery, Myrna Loy, William Gargan, and C. Henry Gordon. Note that the source story for this movie was written by Antoine de Saint Exupery, best known as the author of "The Little Prince".

Important Added Info: Note that movie posters from this movie are incredibly rare. We have only previously auctioned some lobby cards and stills (and no other movie paper) from this movie until we received this half-sheet! Also note that this poster has never been machine folded! Some pre-1970 half-sheet posters were machine folded twice horizontally at the poster exchange, while some were not. It can be difficult to find an unfolded example of many pre-1970 half-sheet posters (note that most post-1970 half-sheets were NOT machine folded, so they are pretty much only found unfolded, and therefore this does not apply to those half-sheets). Finally, note that because this half-sheet was printed on a slightly heavier paper, it makes far more sense for it to be sent in a large flat package than rolled in a tube, because we are afraid that rolling it could cause damage to it, and we would hate for that to happen! We will only send it rolled in a tube if the buyer insists, and accepts full responsibility in case there is any damage to it.

Condition: good. The poster was never folded. It has stains and small paper loss around the edges, extending into part of John Barrymore's credit. It had two small circular stains in Montgomery's face at bottom center. There is a pinhole in the center of the "G" of "FLIGHT". There are two tears in the right border that extend into the image area that were repaired with tape from the back. Obviously, this incredibly rare poster has real defects, but it was never folded and the stains likely will respond well to chemical restoration, so it may be that little paint restoration it needed, and after proper restoration, it will display wonderfully!
