Date Sold 7/12/2020Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Jumbo Movie Window Card (WC; measures 22" x 28" [56 x 71 cm]) (Learn More) Swing High, Swing Low, the 1937 Mitchell Leisen Panama/New York City romantic love triangle musical ("Based on a play by George Manker Watters and Arthur Hopkins"; written for the screen, in part, by Oscar Hammerstein II; about a manicurist on a ship going through the Panama Canal, intending to go to California, but she makes the mistake of spending the day in Panama, and she ends up in the company of a fellow who gets them both thrown in jail, and she misses her boat, and he makes it up to her by letting her live with him and his roommate, and naturally, they fall in love, and then his old girlfriend shows up, and that's just the beginning of this entertaining romantic musical!) starring Carole Lombard, Fred MacMurray, Charles Butterworth, Jean Dixon, Dorothy Lamour (in her second credited movie role!), Harvey Stephens, and Anthony Quinn (in his first real role). Note that Anthony Quinn played the man that MacMurray and Lombard fight with in Panama, and he is credited as "The Don". He would have a number of similar minor roles. In 1937, he married Katherine DeMille (Cecil B.'s daughter), and that, plus a lot of acting talent, put him on a much faster road to stardom (and many, many children!). NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this jumbo window card! Not only that, but we have only previously auctioned a half-sheet, a window card, and NO other posters! Note that this jumbo window card is printed on a heavy paper stock, similar to that of regular window cards of this period. It could not possibly be rolled, and it must be sent in a large flat package that measures approximately 24" x 30", so bear this added expense in mind before bidding on this poster. Condition: good to very good. The poster has nail holes in the top and bottom borders, and water staining scattered down the right. It is most noticeable in the bottom right corner and in the top right blank area, but it does affect the entire right side unevenly. This is the sort of poster that responds really well to professional restoration. It is likely that much or all of the STAINING can be removed through chemical means, after which the poster will look fantastic (although I think some collectors could happily display this great poster on their wall just as it is).
