An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Big Stakes, the 1922 Clifford S. Elfelt silent Mexico romantic love triangle western melodrama ("Adapted from Earl Wayland Bowman's American story 'High Stakes' by Frank Howard Clark"; "Adapted from the American Magazine story 'High Stakes' by Earl Wayland Bowman"; about a western cowboy who crosses the border into Mexico in search of a lost steer; he finds a beautiful senorita instead, and starts romancing her, which makes her Mexican captain boyfriend jealous, but ultimately, they join forces and break up a gang of criminals) starring J.B. Warner, Elinor Fair ("Supported by Elinor Fair and all star cast"), Les Bates, Willie Mae Carson, Hilliard Karr, and R. Henry Grey (as the Mexican captain). Note that "R. Henry Grey" is a very interesting actor from early movies. He was born "Henry V. Goerner" in 1891, and started making movies in 1911 under his birth name, but soon changed his stage name. He appeared in 96 shorts between 1911 and 1917, and another 27 features between 1914 and 1923, and he specialized in playing "heavies", saying that he found those characters much more interesting than the heroes! After 1923, he retired from movies, but that seems odd, because he was only 32! We found a newspaper article from 1919 saying that he had been put in jail for not paying child support to his ex-wife, who he had married in 1912, so maybe that had something to do with his "retirement" four years later (they also mention that he was the handsomest prisoner they ever had!). He came out of retirement to appear in one movie in 1933, and then passed away the next year at the age of 42. If anyone knows more about this actor, please e-mail us and we will post it here. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Condition: good to very good. There is a 10" tear in the center of the top border. There is 4" of separation in the top of the vertical fold and a 2" tear in the left border. After a simple linenbacking, the poster will look great! Learn More about condition grades
