Date Sold 10/22/2024Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Plan Nine From Outer Space, the 1958 Ed Wood (billed as "Edward D. Wood, Jr.") science fiction (sci-fi) zombie horror thriller ("Unspeakable horrors from outer space paralyze the living and resurrect the dead!"; some consider this to be the very worst movie ever!) starring Bela Lugosi, Maila Nurmi (billed as "Vampira"; as the Vampire Girl), Lyle Talbot, Gregory Walcott, Mona McKinnon, Duke Moore, Tom Keene, Carl Anthony, Paul Marco, Tor Johnson, Dudley Manlove, Joanna Lee, John Brechinridge, Norma McCarty, Lynn Lemon, Conrad Brooks, and Tom Mason (as "Ghoul Man with Cape Over Face"). Note that Lugosi died during the beginning of filming in 1956, but the ever resourceful Ed Wood (knowing his movie would be doomed without his top star) hired his wife Kathy's chiropractor to film Lugosi's scenes, and he dressed in a vampire-like outfit and held a cape high over his face, and no one knew the difference (and sadly, the chiropractor, Tom Mason, could not, of course, be credited on screen). There is some archival footage of Lugosi that Ed Wood used in the movie as well. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: David Lewis Important Added Info: Note that the last time we auctioned an unrestored example of this "blue" style one-sheet, it sold for $5,500! We have seen two different color variations on one-sheets for Plan 9 From Outer Space (the one we are selling here and one with slightly different coloring). We wondered if anyone feels one version was printed before the other, and so we checked with ultimate horror/sci-fi poster authority Ron Borst, and he tells us that "He feels that this was a printing variation and that's all." This confirms our opinion, which is that both variations are first release, and every major collector seems to feel the exact same way. Condition: very good. The poster has tiny red and blue minor printing defects in the blank areas of the lower-left corner and left border. It also has red ink smudges in the vertical fold below the title down to the bottom crossfold. There are no pinholes anywhere. There are very tiny tears in the right half of the bottom blank border and the tiniest of paper loss in the top-right blank border. There is tiny paper separation at the top crossfold and no separation in the other two crossfolds. Other than the above defects which are truly minor, the poster is in really nice condition (and if not for the minor red and blue marks that are a printing defect, the poster would definitely grade "very good to fine").
