A Vintage Hardcover Book (measures 11 3/4" x 16" [30 x 41 cm]; 800 pages) (Learn More) Publix Theatres: Publix Opinion, the weekly newspaper magazine distributed by Paramount Pictures to their chain of theaters (in the 1920s and 1930s, the studios each owned major chains of theaters, and they would only show their own movies in those theaters; at some point in the 1930s, this was ruled to be a monopoly, and the studios were forced to sell their theaters to independent entities, and the theaters could not have a monopoly on the product from a specific studio). Publix Opinions was first published on April 24, 1927, and was published at least through the end of 1930. The newspaper magazine was aimed specifically at the theater owners it was sent to, and contained many technical articles about promoting movies, more efficiently running theaters, etc., and there were some artwork advertisements for upcoming movies included as well. I have seen a very few individual issues (they are very rare because they are printed on pulp paper, like old newspapers), but I have also seen a set of three bound volumes. Those bound volumes were distributed to theaters and they covered the issues from 1927 through 1930. This auction is for one of those bound volumes. See below for which issues it contains Important Added Info: This auction is for a bound volume for the weekly issues from April 24, 1927 to November 1, 1929. This is "BOOK 1" in a three book set that was sent to theater owners in early 1931. There was also a "BOOK 2" that covered earlier November 8, 1929 to June 13, 1930, and we are auctioning that book in a separate auction. There was also a "BOOK 3", which covers June 20, 1930 through December 26, 1930, but we were not consigned that volume. Also note that we have pictured the front cover, the title page, and the interior page that shows the publishing information, and one or more interior 2-page spreads. Condition: fair to good. As is true of all surviving examples of this book, the pages are very fragile and have darkened. In addition, some of the pages have some light water staining. Please do not bid on this unless you can accept these defects. Learn More about condition grades
