Murnau silent romantic love triangle crime melodrama ("The outstanding achievement of the motion picture art"; "Scenario by Carl Mayer"; winner of the Best Picture Academy Award) starring George O'Brien (as "The Man"), Janet Gaynor (winner of the Best Actress Academy Award for this film; as "The Wife"), Margaret Livingston (as "The Woman From The City"), Bodil Rosing, and J. Farrell MacDonald. Note that at the very first Oscar ceremony, this movie was awarded the Oscar for "Best Picture, Unique and Artistic Production".
