Date Sold 5/1/2018Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) The Thirty-Nine Steps, the classic 1935 Alfred Hitchcock English London romantic kidnapping murder mystery espionage spy crime thriller ("Handcuffed to the girl who double-crossed him"; "The 'Monte Cristo' hero.. The Man who put the Man in roMANce"; "Directed by Alfred Hitchcock Director of 'The Man Who Knew Too Much"; "A hundred steps ahead of any picture this year"; from the novel by John Buchan; perhaps Alfred Hitchcock's best movie ever; there are too many wonderful plot twists and clever moments to describe here, but everyone should see this excellent movie!) starring Robert Donat, Madeleine Carroll, Lucie Mannheim, Godfrey Tearle, and Peggy Ashcroft NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that it is incredibly rare that a wonderful movie has a lobby card that shows the most key scene of the movie (and this is even less true of a mystery, where that key scene reveals a key plot twist from the movie). This is that rare case where this card is all you could possibly ask for from this wonderful movie, because it is from the wonderful scene (*SPOILER ALERT*) when Godfrey Tearle says "Sure it wasn't this one?"! Finally, note that we auctioned this very same card in 2012, and now it has been re-consigned to us, and we are auctioning this wonderful card again! Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. Condition: very good. The card was "starch backed", which means that it was moistened with a special starch solution, attached to a backing, allowed to dry, and then the card had touch up while it was backed, and afterward, the backing was removed. This particular card had been used by a theater in an 8" x 10" frame, so they folded back the top and bottom 1 1/2", and also the right 4", so that it would fit in the frame. Otherwise, the card had a 4" crease in the upper left border (apparently the person folding the card originally thought to fold it there, and started to do so, but then realized it would look better the other way!). The card also had a pinhole in the middle of the right border and just some minor border wear, and other than the above folds, the card was really in nice condition. The card was starch backed by a talented professional and expert restoration was performed to the above defects. The card truly looks fantastic, and it has solely had minor touch up to the above folds, and best of all, it still completely looks and feels like an unrestored lobby card!
