An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Other Company One-Sheet Movie Poster (measures 27" x 41") (Learn More) Wuthering Heights, the classic 1939 William Wyler (nominated for the Best Director Academy Award for this film) romantic unrequited love melodrama ("I am torn with Desire -- Tortured by hate!"; "....The strangest love story ever told... burning emotional fury!"; "I am Heathcliff I love a woman who belongs to another man by law... My love was fierce... My hate is burning... I Will Have My Vengeance!"; "I am Heathcliff... I married a woman I loathe... to spite the one woman I love!"; "A Story of Vengeful Thwarted Love"; "Adapted by Ben Hecht and Charles Mac-Arthur from the powerful novel by Emily Bronte [actually, they only adapted the first 22 chapters!]"; nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award; about a poor beggar who is 'adopted' by a kindly rich man and when he grows up, he falls in love with the man's daughter, but is hated by the rich man's son who has inherited his father's wealth, and he runs away to become rich so that she will feel free to love him, but when he returns rich, he discovers she has married someone else!) starring Merle Oberon (as Cathy), Laurence Olivier (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film; as Heathcliff), David Niven (as Edgar), Flora Robson (as Ellen Dean), Donald Crisp (as Dr. Kenneth), Hugh Williams (as Hindley), Geraldine Fitzgerald (nominated for the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for this film; as Isabella), Leo G. Carroll (as Joseph), Cecil Humphreys (as Judge Linton), and Miles Mander (as Lockwood) NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: This is an "other company" one-sheet (see below for more on this). This is one of the cases where the poster from the "other company" is far superior to that of the regular studio issue. Samuel Goldwyn had the bizarre concept of promoting this movie as a sort of horror film (perhaps he was afraid people would be turned off by knowing they were going to see an adaptation of a Victorian romantic melodrama)! The regular studio issue poster has Laurence Olivier pictured in green (the same green that Universal used for all its monsters!). This "other company" one-sheet has one of the most memorable moments of the movie, and shows a close up of Olivier and Oberon! Also note that this was printed by the "other company". This was a company in the Midwest that from 1936 to 1940 printed its own one-sheets and lobby card sets for three major studio movies (Warner Brothers, Paramount and United Artists, but no other studios). The posters and lobby cards are from the original release of the movie, and almost always have completely different artwork from the regular studio release. They never have the name of the releasing studio on the poster or any of the lobby cards. Sometimes, "other company" posters or lobby cards have sold for more than the regular studio release posters or lobby cards! Condition: very good to fine. There is a pinhole in the hat of the image in the top left corner. There are pinholes in the corners and a few in the middle of the borders. There is small separation at the top and bottom crossfolds. There are some creases in the top half of the vertical foldline. There is tiny separation in the blank borders at the ends of some foldlines, and some creases around the edges of the poster. Learn More about condition grades
