An Original 1940s (probably 1949) Vintage Theatrical Tri-Folded Stock One-Sheet Movie Poster (27" x 41") (Learn More)

a 1940s (probably 1949) John Wayne stock poster used by theaters to advertise re-released John Wayne serials from American Films. Theaters would order this poster, which has a large blank area where the title of the specific film being shown could be added (either through a snipe or through overprinting), thus getting many posters for the price of one (but the only examples of this poster we have seen have been overprinted, with just two titles, Shadow of the Eagle and Hurricane Express, both serials, so we suspect that this poster was solely used for re-releases of these John Wayne serials). Note that, in the U.S., after John Wayne achieved major stardom in 1939 with Stagecoach, distributors rushed to re-release his many 1930s B-westerns to theaters.
