An Original Vintage Theatrical 8" x 10" [20 x 25 cm] Movie Still (Learn More) Ladies' Man, the 1931 Lothar Mendes gigolo-trying-to-find-happiness romantic love triangle melodrama ("Women were his Prey! Love was his Bait!"; an odd story with Powell as a gigolo who has an affair with a rich older woman, and her daughter falls in love with him, and in addition, there is a rich society woman who also falls in love with Powell, and there is an unhappy resolution to all of this) starring William Powell (as Jamie Darricott), Kay Francis (as the society woman), Carole Lombard (as the daughter of the older woman), Gilbert Emery, Olive Tell (as the older woman), and Martin Burton. Note that William Powell was married to Carole Lombard at the time of this movie, and certainly, he must be envied for getting to play love scenes with both his wife, Carole Lombard, and with sensuous Kay Francis! Note that the screenplay for this movie was written by Herman J. Mankiewicz. He is most remembered today for having co-written the script for Citizen Kane with Orson Welles (there is much debate as to how much Welles actually wrote). However, he had a really major career as a screenwriter prior to Citizen Kane! He started as a newspaper columnist for a news service right after World War I, and then he became a columnist for many of the major New York newspapers and magazines, including The New York Times and The New Yorker. In the late 1920s, he went to Hollywood and became a top screenwriter, heading the Paramount screenwriting department for several years! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Condition: good to very good. The still was once attached to an album page and there is black paper residue on the back of the top of the still. This caused a faint crease running across the top of the image, entering into the very top of Francis' hat, but it is mostly only noticeable when the still is tilted to the light, and otherwise, the still is in excellent condition.
