An Original Vintage Linenbacked English Three-Sheet (called a 6sh in England) Stage Play Poster (3sh; measures 39 3/4" x 72 1/4" [101 x 184 cm]) (Learn More) Mother Goose, the circa 1930s English stage play production. The one-sheet poster features really cool artwork of Mother Goose showing a golden egg to a little boy, while a clothed goose looks on, and the three-sheet and double crown feature completely different art, but also really cool image of Mother Goose holding a broom while riding a huge flying goose. A collector from England tells us he believes that this poster (and the other English stage play posters from other classic fairy tales) were used for local Christmas pantomimes (that were very professional productions) that were held all over England for many years. Most of the posters were produced by Taylors of Wombwell from 1929 to the late 1930s (but it seems likely that the posters we are auctioning date from the late 1930s). It was quite common in those pantomimes for women to play boys' roles, and for men to play the roles of unlikeable women (like witches and mean old ladies!). Important Added Info: Note that this English three-sheet has been trimmed and it now measures 39 3/4" x 72 1/4" [101 x 184 cm]. It originally measured 40" x 85", but the bottom of the image has a town, and apparently someone wanted just the image of Mother Goose, so they carefully trimmed the bottom 13" or so of the poster, and then put back the bottom blank border to the new bottom. So a significant part of the image is missing, but of course, many people would never know that, and it absolutely can be displayed and enjoyed as it is. Someone trimmed off 13" from the bottom of the image and then put back the blank border (see above). Otherwise, the poster had pretty minor fold and border wear.
