Date Sold 4/11/2010Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Glass Slide (measures approximately 3" x 4" [8 x 10 cm]) (Learn More) Ham & Eggs at the Front, the 1927 Roy Del Ruth black African American World War I (WWI) romantic screwball comedy ("A comedy riot"; "Based on the story by Darryl Francis Zanuck"; an amazingly racist movie that stars two black African American soldiers in World War I, and to make matters worse, both are played by white actors in blackface; the plot has the soldiers stranded in France, and they meet black French girl, Fifi, who is played by Myrna Loy, also in blackface, and the two men vie for her affections, but she turns out to be a German spy!) starring Tom Wilson (a large white man who specialized in playing black roles in the early silent days when studios were reluctant to hire African Americans; he would put burnt cork on his face and skin!; he appeared in The Kid, but not in a black role; in the title role as Ham), Heinie Conklin (in the title role as Eggs), Myrna Loy, William Irving, and Noah Young. Note that it is a sad footnote in film history that Darryl F. Zanuck wrote this sorry racist movie, and in later years, he was one of the leaders in fighting against prejudice and intolerance, making both "Pinky" and "Gentleman's Agreement" (perhaps in part to atone for writing this movie)! Important Added Info: Note that glass slides were designed to be put in a special projector that would project the image onto a movie screen (they use exactly the same concept as 35mm slides). We have taken a digital photo of each that shows the general condition of the overall slide and holder, and we have also made a digital scan that shows the glass image well, but does not show the holder (except as a dark outline). Condition: fine. The glass slide itself is in nice condition and the cardboard holder has some minor smudges (as can be seen in our super-sized images). Learn More about condition grades
