eMoviePoster.comAuction History Result 6w018 JIMMY THE GENT Part I temp draft script Oct 28, 1933, from James Cagney's personal library! Date Sold 12/8/2011Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Movie Script (measures 8 1/2" x 11" [22 x 28 cm], 79 pages) (Learn More) Jimmy the Gent, the 1934 Michael Curtiz romantic comedy ("You can't mix gilt-edged bonds with jilt-edged blondes"; about con man who runs a business tracing missing heirs of fortunes; his girlfriend leaves him because she doesn't approve of how he does business, but then she goes to work in a "legitimate" business of the same type, and the con man discovers that business is even shadier than his!) starring James Cagney (in the title role as Jimmy Corrigan), Bette Davis, Alice White, Allen Jenkins, Alan Dinehart, Arthur Hohl, and Mayo Methot. Note that this was the first pairing of James Cagney and Bette Davis, and despite their clearly having chemistry, they did not work together again for many years, in the classic "The Bride Came C.O.D.". Perhaps their egos couldn't stand having someone co-starring who was just as sensational an actor and as charismatic as they were! Also note that this movie was made when Cagney was trying to get Warner Bros. to stop casting him in the same type of movies over and over, and supposedly he had his head practically shaved in this movie as a protest! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this script was purchased at the William Doyle Galleries auction of "Property from the estate of James Cagney" on 9/30/92. It was in James Cagney's personal library, and has a loose bookplate inside the cover that has Cagney's personal image on it, along with "JAMES CAGNEY his book". The script says "PART 1" on the cover, and has "10/28/33 (Temp) PART I" on the first interior page. The first interior page had a form that was signed by the person receiving the script and it had perforations in the bottom one-third of that page, and that form has been removed from that page (which is as intended, and is typical with such scripts). This was the way the studio kept track of who had these scripts! Also note that the script has the working title "The Heir Chaser", but the movie ultimately was called "Jimmy the Gent". Condition: very good. The perforated receipt is missing from the first page . The covers have some small tears and slight darkening around the edges. Otherwise, the script is in pretty nice condition! Learn More about condition grades
