An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Belgian Movie Poster (measures 14" x 19") (Learn More) Arabian Nights, the 1942 John Rawlins desert romantic action adventure thriller ("Walter Wanger's mighty production") starring Jon Hall, Maria Montez (as Scheherazade), Sabu Dastagir (billed as "Sabu"), Leif Erikson, Billy Gilbert, Edgar Barrier, Shemp Howard, Thomas Gomez, Turhan Bey, Elyse Knox, Acquanetta (in her first film), and Carmen D'Antonnio NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Condition: good to very good. The poster was never folded. It originally had a blank top that was neatly trimmed off (this is commonly done with Belgian posters, similar to how the blank top is trimmed off of U.S. window cards). It also had two long tears in the top right of the poster, running from the blue background to the right of Sabu's credit. One runs across Montez's cheek and through the bridge of her nose and upper eyelid, and the other runs through her cheek, the bottom of her nose, and crosses under her eye. There were some faint stains and scuffs in that area and there were creases, tears, and areas of paper loss in the borders. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but you can see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects. If I owned this very striking poster, I would likely see if a restorer could perform additional touch up to the defects described above, which I think they could likely do without re-backing the poster.
