An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Insert Movie Poster (measures 14" x 36" [36 x 91 cm]) (Learn More) The Man From Planet X, the 1951 Edgar Ulmer UFO space alien science fiction (sci-fi) horror melodrama ("The Weirdest Visitor the Earth has ever seen!"; "The deadliest enemy the world has ever known!"; "Written and produced by Aubrey Wisberg and Jack Pollexfen"; about a scientist who discovers a planet is approaching the Earth, and then a spaceship lands in a remote part of Scotland, and the daughter of the scientist tries to make contact with the alien onboard!) starring Robert Clarke, Margaret Field, Raymond Bond, William Schallert, Roy Engel, and Pat Goldin (billed as "and the Strange Man from Planet X"). Note that reading the plot summary above would make you think that this movie was a rip-off of The Day the Earth Stood Still, but actually, it came out BEFORE that, and also before most of the 1950s sci-fi greats. It was shot in six days on a budget of $43,000, a tiny fraction of the budgets for "The Thing From Another World" ($1.6 million) and "The Day The Earth Stood Still" ($1.2 million), and while it lacks in special effects, it still was a groundbreaking movie! This means the poster was backed onto a paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (except somewhat heavier). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards, and lobby cards. Note that while this poster technically COULD be rolled in a tube, the backing is heavy enough that we strongly advise against it. Therefore, we will only send this poster in a very large flat package, unless the new owner insists on a tube, and accepts responsibility for any damage caused by it being rolled. The poster will arrive fine and display great if it is sent in a flat package, but it will cost more to send this way, especially if the poster is being sent outside the U.S., so please only bid on this poster when you take into mind the cost of shipping it in a very large flat package. What IS paperbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. Prior to paperbacking, the poster had some tiny creases and fine surface paper loss on parts of the folds. It had a 3" slightly diagonal tear at the right end of the top fold, starting 1/2" below that fold and extending up through the background to the fold. It had a partial extra top horizontal fold 1/4" below the regular one and another 1/4" above the regular bottom one, at a slight diagonal. It had some pinholes, tears, and small paper loss around the edges. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to paperbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well!
