An Autographed Letter (measures 7 1/4" x 10 1/2" [18 x 27 cm]) (Learn More) John Ford was a legendary filmmaker from the 1910s to the 1970s. He directed more than 140 films and won four Academy Awards for Best Director for The Quiet Man, The Grapes of Wrath, The Informer, and How Green Was My Valley (which is a record that still stands). Some of his other films include: Stagecoach, The Searchers, and How Green Was My Valley. He passed away in 1973 at the age of 79. Important Added Info: Note that this letter has been personally autographed (signed) by John Ford! This letter was auctioned at a TCM/Bonham's auction in 2019, and it was sent by John Ford (who signed it "Jack") on his personal stationery. He was thanking director William Wellman for a knife that he had sent to him as a gift, and he enclosed a dime "because I'm superstitious and Irish like you"! You can see that the dime was taped to the top of the letter, but it is no longer present. Since the items in the auction were consigned by William Wellman Jr., and since John Ford was a personal friend of Wellman's, so we are 100% certain this letter was signed by John Ford himself, although the auction did not provide a certificate of authenticity. As is true of all the signed items we are currently auctioning, we give every buyer 30 days in which to review what they purchased (although we prefer they do any "authenticating" while the auction is "live" and before they place a bid) and they can return any item as long as it is within 30 days of the end of the auction. On non-signed items, we give a "lifetime guarantee" on everything we auction, but on signed items, we give the above modified guarantee of 30 days after the auction closes. Condition: very good.
