Date Sold 10/20/2019Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Tri-Folded Billboard Advertising Poster (measures approximately 9' x 20') (Learn More) Wrigley's Gum has been sold by the William Wrigley Jr. Company from 1892 to the present. The company was founded in 1891, originally selling products such as soap and baking powder. In 1892, the company began packaging chewing gum with each can of baking powder. The chewing gum (led by their "Juicy Fruit" brand) eventually became more popular than the baking powder and Wrigley's reoriented the company to produce the gum. Originally, the gum was promoted as a health aid ("it stimulates digestion, keeps your face and jaws plastic, helps endurance, steadies nerves, quenches thirst, guards against sore throat"!). Either eventually the government stopped them from making so many unproven claims, or they did so voluntarily, but eventually it became an alternative to candy that we all know and love! Artist: Shepard Important Added Info: Note that this billboard poster was printed in 12 sections designed to overlap. Also note that this poster was tri-folded only (which means there is no vertical machine fold) but because it would be more expensive to send flat, it will be sent rolled in a tube. Note that this item needs to be shipped in an oversized flat package. Most of these items absolutely can only be sent in flat packages, and could not possibly be rolled into a tube. Some of them might SEEM like they could be rolled in a tube, like a half-sheet, but they can't. The reason these items are in this auction is specifically because they CAN'T be rolled (because rolling any of them would damage them, even if they somehow can be rolled). So please bear in mind that this item must be sent in a LARGE flat package (the size of the package will depend on the size of the item when ready for shipping), and bear this added expense in mind before placing a bid on it. IN THE CASE OF EXTREMELY LARGE FLAT ITEMS, THE SHIPPING COST WILL BE VERY HIGH, SO PLEASE DO NOT BID WITHOUT THINKING ABOUT THAT ADDED SHIPPING AMOUNT, AND INCLUDE THAT AMOUNT IN WHAT YOU BID (so if you would pay $150, but the shipping is likely $100, then only bid $50). And those who live outside the U.S. and who do not have a U.S. address to ship to SHOULD NOT BID AT ALL ON EXTREMELY LARGE FLAT ITEMS, BECAUSE THEY COST HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS TO SEND OUTSIDE THE U.S. Condition: fair. As can be seen in our image the poster is in much lesser condition. The billboard was exposed to moisture at one time which has caused substantial water staining and some deterioration and paper loss along the foldlines and edges (see our image). It is in need of restoration but please bear in mind the cost of restoration (especially given its very large size). Learn More about condition grades
