An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Mexican Movie Poster (measures approximately 27" x 37" [69 x 94 cm]) (Learn More)

La Marca del Zorrillo (literally translates to "The Mark of the Skunk"), the 1950 Gilberto Martinez Solares Mexican fantasy comedy (about a cowardly swordsman who uses a magic ointment to make himself invincible and fight villains) starring German Valdes (billed as "Tin-Tan"), Silvia Pinal, Marcelo Chavez, Rafael Alcayde, and Hortensia Constance. The movie seems obviously to be a comedy parody of a Zorro movie, complete with a title that looks like "The Mark of Zorro", but is a joke on that! It appears this movie was never released in the U.S. If anyone knows more about this movie, please e-mail us and we will post it here.

Artist: Ernesto Garcia Cabral
Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned two examples of this Mexican poster, which is a "country of origin" poster for this Mexican movie, and the last one was 8 years ago (that example was only in "fair" condition, and it still sold for $315)!

Note that this linenbacked Mexican poster (and 98 others, which we are auctioning in 99 separate auctions) comes from a remarkable collection of Mexican posters which was assembled over many decades! We auctioned the first 81 of these in our August 2023 Major Auction, and those included many great rarities, and they sold for as much as $2,505, but there were also a number of great bargains that sold for well under the cost of linenbacking alone! NOW, we are auctioning an additional 99 posters from this amazing collection, which again includes many great rarities, including 22 Mexican posters with art by Ernesto Garcia Cabral! There will again be the chance for great buys in these honest no reserve auctions, and many of these posters may not be offered again for many years, if ever!

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster had small paper loss at the crossfolds and some tiny tears and tiny bits of paper loss on parts of the folds. The borders had darkened. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well!
