Date Sold 6/25/2020Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) Dangerous Lies, the 1921 Paul Powell English silent romantic love triangle marriage crime melodrama ("By E. Phillips-Oppenheim"; with titles designed by Alfred Hitchcock; filmed in Monte Carlo, Monaco; about a woman whose husband is presumed dead, and she remarries, and he resurfaces, and they quarrel, and she kills him in the struggle!) starring David Powell, Mary Glynne, Arthur M. Cullin, Ernest A. Douglas, and Warburton Gamble. Note that this was one of 11 movies made between 1920 and 1922 where a very young Alfred Hitchcock was the "title designer". Of course, not long after this, he went on to become a director, and to say that he had considerable success would be an understatement! Also note that director Paul Powell and star David Powell had the same last name, but were not related in any way. Paul Powell had an odd life! He was a newspaperman in Chicago, and he did an expose on the Mafia, and they threatened his life, and he traveled to California, where he wrote some screenplays, and became a director, with some of his movies in England, and then he returned to the United States, where he continued directing! He passed away in 1944 at the age of 62, and apparently, the Mafia never did get him. Note that this is a "lost" film which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that ANY movie paper items from this movie are incredibly rare. We have only previously auctioned two different scene cards from this early Alfred Hitchcock movie (and NO other movie paper) until we received this lobby card! Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. Condition: good. There is darkening in the top of the card and some chips in the blank corners and in two blank borders (see our image). Note that this card is completely unrestored and there is not a single piece of tape on either the front or back! Learn More about condition grades
