OUR LEADING CITIZEN ('22) OUR LEADING CITIZEN ('22) 1/2sh OR search current auctions Auction History Result #011 OUR LEADING CITIZEN 1/2sh '22 Meighan Date Sold 9/25/2001Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Half-Sheet (measures 22x28) (Learn More) Our Leading Citizen, the 1922 Alfred E. Green silent lawyer legal romantic political comedy (about a small town lawyer who enlists in World War I, and meets a pretty nurse there, who is the sister of one of the town's big shots; when he returns after the war, the citizens ask him to run for Congress, but he thinks his girlfriend made it happen, so he refuses, but she convinces him that it is because he is the best man for the job, and he runs and wins, and goes to Washington, D.C. with his new bride!) starring Thomas Meighan ("in a George Ade story"), Lois Wilson, William P. Carleton, Theodore Roberts, and Guy Oliver. Note that this is a "lost" film, which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this half-sheet came from a collection found in a closed-down movie theater. All of the half-sheets were unfolded, and many have the theater name and play-dates written somewhere on the poster in the blank background (much as a window card has this information), but otherwise they are in surprisingly good condition (some have staining or tears which is always noted on each auction). We have sold ten of these half-sheets in previous weeks, and this week we sell the last of the half-sheets from this find! Note that this is a hand-colored half-sheet. In the days of silent film prior to the invention of good quality full-color printing, studios would have half-sheets printed in black and white and then amazingly would hire women to hand-color the half-sheets one at a time (apparently labor was very cheap at the time)! So, each half-sheet is colored slightly differently, and the coloring is never a perfect match. Condition: very good. There is blue writing in the top blank border and in the bottom blank border. There is brown staining in the upper left in the blank borders and white text that extends slightly into the oval and over the woman's hair. Learn More about condition grades
