An Original 1947 (from the first French release of this movie) Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked French One-Panel "Grande" Movie Poster (1p; measures 44 1/2" x 63") (Learn More) Ernst Lubitsch's Comedy To Be or Not to Be, the 1942 Ernst Lubitsch World War II (WWII) military romantic love triangle anti-Nazi screwball comedy ("We announce the presentation of Carole Lombard's last picture. An exciting romantic comedy keyed to an ever-mounting tempo of suspense. Jack Benny at his best in a surprisingly different comic role. Here is a Lubitsch picture-brilliant in its acting-spectacular in its scope."; "original story by Ernst Lubitsch and Melchior Lengyel"; produced by Alexander Korda) starring Carole Lombard (in her final movie role; she tragically died in a plane crash after filming), Jack Benny, Robert Stack, Felix Bressart, Lionel Atwill, Stanley Ridges, Charles Halton, and Sig Ruman. As noted above, Lombard tragically passed away after the movie finished filming, but before it was released. United Artists decided to capitalize on this by promoting it as "Carole Lombard's last picture"! Also note that this movie was remade by Mel Brooks in 1983! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Duccio Marvasi Condition: good to very good. The poster had small paper loss at some crossfolds. There was larger paper loss at the top center crossfold (in the background to the right of Lombard's hair and extending in scattered areas to the right border across that half of the foldline. There were some tears and small areas of paper loss in the vertical foldline between the top center crossfold and the middle center crossfold, and a lesser amount of wear on the other folds. There were some creases, tears, and areas of paper loss in the borders. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but you can see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects. Note that at some point after the poster was linenbacked, it was roughly handled, and was pressed while it was rolled, and there are now seven evenly spaced 15" horizontal creases down the right side of the poster. They are in both the poster and the linen itself. They are not that noticeable, and a restorer could possibly "flatten" the poster in those areas to make them even less noticeable.
