An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Camping Out, the 1928 George Marshall silent slapstick outdoors comedy short ("Smitty and his pals") starring Donald Harris (as Smitty), Jackie Combs, Joseph Belmont, Otto Fries, and Roy Saeger. Note that Smitty was a comic strip created by Walter Berndt in 1922. It was about a 13 year old office boy, his girlfriend, his 6 year old brother, and his dog, who were collectively referred to as "His Pals". Berndt based it on his own real life experiences as an office boy. For the first ten years of the strip, Berndt used the same gimmick simultaneously used in "Gasoline Alley", where Smitty aged a year each year the strip went by, so by 1932, Smitty was 23 years old! The strip ran until 1973. In 1928 and 1929, there were ten Pathe comedy shorts based on this comic strip, but those strayed away from the source subject matter and instead were more like Our Gang comedies (which were at that time extremely successful). Movie paper from any of those shorts is extremely rare (they likely made only a one-sheet, a three-sheet and a set of 4 duotone lobby cards for each short, and surely few theaters ordered them). Important Added Info: Note that first release 1928 movie paper from this movie is incredibly rare. We have never auctioned even a single poster from this movie until we received this poster! It is one of three one-sheets from three of the ten Smitty shorts we have been consigned and we are auctioning them in three separate auctions. Previous to being consigned these three posters, we had only been consigned a few lobby cards from "No Picnic" and a one-sheet from "No Sale", and no other posters or lobby cards from any of the ten Smitty shorts. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster had some extra creases and tiny paper loss in parts of some folds, with pinholes in the corners and faint smudges around the edges, and light stains in the outer edges of the blank borders. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well! Learn More about condition grades
