Artist: Saul Bass Important Added Info: Note that everyone agrees that this poster and "Vertigo" are Saul Bass' two best posters, and it has continued to surprise me that the Vertigo poster regularly sells for much more than this poster! Personally, I like this image just as much (or better) than the image on the Vertigo poster, and I also like this movie just as much (or better) than Vertigo! I think this is an imbalance in the "poster marketplace" that is sure to get corrected over time. I see no reason why one of these posters should sell for less than the other! Also, note that many surviving examples of this poster have been linenbacked due to imperfections, and often the linenbacker chooses to airbrush either of the entire large background areas, or both, to "even them out". It is getting more and more difficult to find an unrestored example of this poster, especially one in nice condition, as this one is! Condition: very good. The poster has the tiniest of paper loss at the bottom crossfold, with fine surface paper loss on the top and bottom horizontal folds, and a lesser amount on the other horizontal folds. There are some creases to the left and right of the vertical fold, in between the middle and bottom crossfolds, and just above the middle crossfold, and these were caused when the poster was machine folded. There are a few faint smudges scattered in the poster. As noted above, it is very difficult to find an unrestored example of this poster that is in nice condition. One could certainly choose to have this poster linenbacked, so as to make it appear "perfect", but I think it might be more wise to keep it as it is, as one of the few remaining unrestored nice condition examples (but of course, that will be the choice of the new owner of this great poster).
