An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded French Two-Panel "Double Grande" Movie Poster (2p; measures 63" x 90 1/4" [160 x 229 cm]; printed in 2 pieces) (Learn More) Le Bal (literally translates to "The Ball"), the 1931 Wilhelm Thiele French family relationship inheritance comedy melodrama (about a middle class French couple and their 14 year old daughter, and they live a comfortable life, but then they have an inheritance, and they become "Nouveaux Riche", causing unhappiness and dissension between them and their new found friends, who only care about their money and laugh at them behind their backs) starring Germaine Dermoz, Danielle Darrieux (14 years old, in her first movie!), Wanda Greville, Pierre de Guingand, and Marguerite Pierry. It appears this movie was never released in the U.S. If anyone knows more about this movie, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Note that Danielle Darrieux would go on to a long and distinguished career, and her last movie was in 2010, just under 80 years after this movie, and she passed away in 2017 at the age of 100! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Bug Important Added Info: Note that this is an extremely rare pre-World War II French poster, is a "country of origin" poster for this French movie (we have never auctioned ANY movie paper items from this movie)! Virtually no French posters survive from before, during, or right after World War II (mostly only pre-war heavy stock lobby cards, and even those are rare). Apparently there were many paper shortages in France during World War II, resulting in the destruction of almost all pre-World War II posters! Also note that this French two-panel measures 63" x 90 1/4" [160 x 229 cm]. Finally, note that this French two-panel was printed in 2 sections designed to overlap. Condition: fair. The left half of the poster has darkened, more so than the right half. The entire poster is very fragile and there are tears and tiny paper loss around the edges and some on the folds, and there are some tape repairs on the back. The poster is in urgent need of professional restoration and linenbacking, so bear that in mind before bidding on this extremely rare poster. Learn More about condition grades
