An Original Vintage Theatrical 7 1/2" x 9 3/4" [19 x 25 cm] Movie Still (Learn More)

Ibanez' Torrent, the 1926 Monta Bell silent romantic melodrama (based on the novel 'Entre Naranjos' by Vincent Blasco-Ibanez; about a Spanish peasant girl who falls in love with her rich landlord's son, and the father forbids their getting together; she goes off to Paris and becomes an opera star, and returns home, and refuses to reunite with her boyfriend, even after he rescues her from a giant flood, which gives the movie its title) starring Ricardo Cortez, Greta Garbo, Gertrude Olmstead, Edward Connelly, and Lucien Littlefield. Note that this was Greta Garbo's first American movie, and the only time she did not get top billing! Also note that Mauritz Stiller, who had directed Garbo's Swedish movies, was intended to direct this movie, but MGM insisted on using their own director, Monta Bell.

Important Added Info: Note that snipe on the back of this great candid (which has been slightly trimmed and now measures 7 1/2" x 9 3/4" [19 x 25 cm]) says that the director told Greta Garbo to "pin back your ears", which was then current American slang, but Garbo, being a newcomer to English, took him literally and started trying to pin her ears back!

Condition: good to very good. The blank borders were neatly partially trimmed and there is light rippling at top center, caused by the snipe glued to the back.
