McLeod college football sports mistaken identity slapstick comedy ("The 4 Marx Brothers"; Groucho is the dean of a college, and he tries to hire two "ringers", professional football players, to help the college win their big game, but he mistakenly hires Harpo and Chico instead, and meanwhile, Zeppo is Groucho's son, who is busy romancing the "college widow", memorably played by Thelma Todd) starring the Marx Brothers (Groucho, Harpo, Chico, and Zeppo), Thelma Todd, David Landau, Nat Pendleton, Robert Greig, Florine McKinney, and Jim Pierce NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that when this theater showed this classic movie they made a monstrous banner that has head shot artwork of each of the four Marx Brothers (a knowledgeable collector tells us that Sam Berman created the art). In addition, they paid for a very large banner to be attached to the side of a local streetcar! This lot contains three images of each banner (see our images). Note that these are from a wonderful collection of photos (most measure 3.5x5.25, but some measure slightly smaller) that were taken by a man who worked at a large movie theater in the late 1930s and early 1940s. He created wonderful theater fronts and homemade posters (some that were displayed outside the theater and some inside the theater), and after he finished making his displays, he would take a picture of each and then he put them in a scrapbook. We have auctioned two groups of photos from this wonderful scrapbook, in single auctions. Now we are offering seven sets (in seven separate auctions) of between two and six photos each from the same scrapbook (sadly we are coming to the end of these!) It is very rare to find photos of original theater fronts and local theater displays from this time period! Condition: good to very good. All four photos have a yellowed tape stain in each corner and there are a few smudges within the images. One has a pair of staple holes in each blank corner (see our images). Two have glue stains on the back. Learn More about condition grades
