Date Sold 12/27/2020Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Unfolded Special Poster (measures 20 1/4" x 28" [51 x 71 cm]) (Learn More) Broadcast Health Fight Tuberculosis, the 1925 Christmas seals charity poster ("Buy"; "Merry Christmas and Good Health") encouraging people to buy Christmas seals, and featuring Ernest Hamlin Baker artwork of Santa Claus behind a radio microphone. Note that Christmas seals are labels placed on mail during the Christmas season to raise funds and awareness for charitable programs. They were introduced to the United States by Emily Bissell in 1907, after she had read about the 1904 Danish Christmas seal program. By 1908, Bissell's idea grew to a national program administered by the National Association for the Study and Prevention of Tuberculosis (later known as the National Tuberculosis Association). Today the Christmas seals benefit the American Lung Association and other lung related issues. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Ernest Hamlin Baker Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this poster! Condition: good. The poster was never folded. It has a 9 1/4" tear at upper center that extends from the blank border to the top of Santa's red hat. Someone backed the tear with clear tape and then touched up the dark blue areas with marker. It has a few creases and small tears around the edges, and several areas of blank border loss around the edges. Several of the small tears around the edges have been backed with clear tape and in a few cases conservation tape. Fortunately the image area is mostly "all there" and after linenbacking with some proper restoration the very rare poster will display well (but of course bear in mind the poster's condition and the cost of restoration before bidding on it.)
