Artist: Philip Castle Important Added Info: Note that this poster has been personally autographed (signed) by Stanley Kubrick! Note that this movie was first released in England in January of 1972, but some cities and towns would not show it for at least a year because of the subject matter (some contemporary newspaper ads mentioned "London release will not be until 1973"). As the release was expanded in late 1972 and 1973 more posters were printed. The very rare early 1972 posters and items featured the older Warner Bros "shield" logo (and/or mentioned "A Kinney Company"), while the 1972/1973 posters featured the Saul Bass designed "big W" logo (and/or mention "A Warner Communications Co"). The poster offered here features the "big W" logo and was printed in late 1972 or early 1973 for the continuous first release. Also, note that this is a "country of origin" poster for this English movie! About the Jon Robert Shaps Autograph Collection Note that this item and 56 others were consigned to us by the brother of Jon Robert Shaps, a celebrity photographer in the 1970s and 1980s. This is a truly remarkable collection of signed items! The page also has images of Mr. Shaps with 29 celebrities he photographed, and also an image of an appraisal of these items done in 1991, after Mr. Shaps' untimely passing. The phrase "once-in-a-lifetime opportunity" is certainly overused, but it seems to be very appropriate in the case of the auction of these 57 items! Condition: good. The poster was framed by someone who had no clue what they were doing, and they glued it to a mat with a glue that darkened the poster where the glue was applied to the back! When our consignor realized what had happened, he removed the poster from the backing, but it now has much scattered light staining in areas where the glue had been. Fortunately, the staining is not on Kubrick's signature, and it primarily shows in scattered parts of the white background areas. I would think that a talented restorer could surely greatly lessen the staining through chemical means (without harming the autograph at all), and that any residue staining could be covered with paint restoration, after which this poster will look incredible, but please bear the above in mind before placing a bid on this poster!
