Date Sold 9/6/2020Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Promo Kit (measures 8 1/2" x 11" [22 x 28 cm]; see below for its contents) (Learn More) Stand Up and Cheer!, the 1934 Hamilton MacFadden musical comedy ("A triumph of originality"; "The show of 1,001 surprises"; "Story and Dialogue by Lew Brown") starring Warner Baxter, Madge Evans, Sylvia Froos, John Boles, James Dunn, Tess Gardella (billed as "Aunt Jemima"), Shirley Temple, Arthur Byron, Ralph Morgan, Nigel Bruce, John 'Skins' Miller (billed as "Skins Miller"), Lucien Littlefield, Nick Foran, Frank Mitchell & Jack Durant (billed as "Mitchell & Durant"), Stepin Fetchit, and Scotty Beckett. Note that Shirley Temple had appeared in some comedy short subjects, and the public really liked her, so Fox put her in this all-star vehicle, and she appears in very little of the original movie paper advertising, but she was again strongly noticed, and was soon starring in movies! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this promo kit! It is REALLY unusual. It has a folded up promo poster that has printing on the reverse side that you read as you unfold the poster (see our images). The entire poster is entitled "How to SEll the Show of 1,001 Surprises", and gives exhibitors all kinds of ideas. There is also a page that reproduces the cover of the sheet music for the title song, as well as five 15" x 22" ad slicks (one of which promotes Shirley Temple; see our image). There are two 11" x 15" ads showing Madge Evans in fashions from the movie and eleven multi-page 8 1/2" x 11" brochures that are stapled at the top and give much information about the movie. The entire promo kit comes with a letter on Fox Film Corporation stationery from Charles E. McCarthy, the Director of Advertising and Publicity at Fox, addressed to exhibitors telling them that they should "use the enclosed publicity and advertising portfolio which has been designed to assist in your campaign". We don't know if all this material originally came in some sort of folder, or if there were other items as well, but it sure is cool! If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Note: We have 15 images of the items in this set, but due to a space limitation, only TEN of the 15 images are displayed above. However, there is a "supersize" link to the right of those images that lets you see the other 5. Condition: very good. The items that are present are in generally nice condition. As noted above, we don't know if there were originally other items with this. Learn More about condition grades
