An Original Vintage Pulp Magazine (measures 6 1/2" x 9 1/2" [17 x 24 cm]) (Learn More)

Planet Stories ("Strange adventures on other worlds - the universe of future centuries"), an American pulp science fiction magazine, published by Fiction House between 1939 and 1955. It featured interplanetary adventures, both in space and on other planets, and was initially focused on a young readership. It was launched at the same time as Planet Comics, the success of which probably helped to fund the early issues of Planet Stories. Planet Stories had a few stories by well-known names, like Isaac Asimov and Clifford Simak, but most of the top authors wrote for Astounding Science Fiction. However, in 1952, Planet published Philip K. Dick's first sale, and went on to print four more of his stories over the next three years. The two writers most identified with Planet Stories are Leigh Brackett and Ray Bradbury, both of whom set many of their stories on a romanticized version of Mars that owed much to the depiction of Barsoom in the works of Edgar Rice Burroughs. Bradbury's work for Planet included an early story in his Martian Chronicles sequence. For more about this magazine, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Planet_Stories

Condition: very good. Note that we have attempted to check to see if the magazine is complete and uncut, and we believe that it is. However, there is a slight possibility that we might have missed a small cut or a page that was neatly removed, and if that happens, you can return the magazine. We have solely provided an overall description of the condition of the magazine, but you can also refer to our super-sized images. Please bid (or not bid) based on that overall grade and by viewing the super-sized images.
