An Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Autographed Special Poster (measures 19 3/4" x 24") (Learn More) America's Heroes Wear Masks, the 1980s poster that pictures Clayton Moore (The Lone Ranger) and a firefighter as "America's Heroes". It was produced by the New York State Department of State Office of Fire Prevention and Control. A knowledgeable collector tells us that this poster was designed to encourage firefighters to wear their SCBA (self-contained breathing apparatus) more often. Apparently, it was "macho" not to wear a mask in some low level smoke conditions and younger firefighters were influenced by more experienced fire fighters not to wear them because they should man up and have tough lungs. However, a higher number of firefighters were dying right after retirement than the normal population due to lung diseases so the NYFD wanted to try this idea out.
