An Original Vintage Theatrical Style A Linenbacked Stock One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41") (Learn More) a stock poster sent to theaters that regularly showed Hopalong Cassidy movies. The theater could put up the poster each time they showed a Hopalong Cassidy movie, and thus use the same poster over and over! The posters would often have a blank area where the title could either be written in, overprinted, or a snipe could be pasted on. Note that Western Classics distributed these movies in both 1946 and 1947, with different stock posters for each year. A year later, these same Hopalong Cassidy movies were again distributed to theaters, this time under the Masterpiece Productions distributor logo. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this is a "stock" poster created by Masterpiece Productions for use by theaters showing re-releases of 1930s Hopalong Cassidy movies in the 1940s. Theaters would order this poster, which had a large blank area at bottom. Sometimes the studio would overprint the stock poster with the title of a specific movie, and sometimes they sent a series of large paper snipes with the titles of specific entries of the series, so the theater could paste in each snipe as needed, thus getting many posters for the price of one. Sometimes stock posters are found with blank snipe areas. Most collectors consider them more valuable with a printed snipe attached, or with an overprinted snipe area. Condition: good to very good. The poster had a penny-sized area of paper loss at the top crossfold and creases, tears, and some tiny areas of paper loss in the top horizontal foldline and in the vertical foldline between the top and bottom crossfolds. There was minor wear on the other foldlines and some creases, tears, pinholes, and small areas of paper loss around the edges of the poster. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but you can see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects.
