An Autographed Cut Album Page matted with a REPRO Still (entire display measures 8" x 10" [20 x 25 cm]) (Learn More)

Al Jolson was a legendary actor/singer from the 1910s to the 1940s. He started in vaudeville, performing in minstrel shows in blackface, and later was the number one star of Broadway in the 1920s, and was called "the world's greatest entertainer", and Warner Bros. chose him to star in the first "talking movie", The Jazz Singer, which was based on a play about Jolson's life (but oddly, George Jessel played the role on Broadway!). He had a string of hit movies in the 1930s, and he married Ruby Keeler, and as her star ascended, his declined (see "A Star is Born", for a story loosely based on their marriage). During World War II, he entertained the troops overseas, and afterwards, he was "re-discovered", and a musical biography of his life was made, "The Jolson Story", with Larry Parks in the lead role, lip synching Jolson's own singing, and a sequel was made, "Jolson Sings Again". He passed away in 1950 at the age of 64.
Important Added Info: This cut album page has been personally autographed (signed) by Al Jolson. It was nicely matted with a REPRO still of the star and it can be displayed just as it is, or slipped into a ready made frame and displayed.

Note that this item was consigned to us by a man who has been a major movie memorabilia dealer from the 1970s on. During that time, he would regularly purchase collections of movie memorabilia from both dealers and collectors, and in some of those collections he purchased autographed items. Both we and our consignor feel it is extremely likely that the autograph on this item is authentic, but he does not have a certificate of authenticity. As is true of all the signed items we are currently auctioning, we give every buyer 30 days in which to review what they purchased and they can return any item as long as it is within 30 days of the end of the auction.

Condition: good to very good. The signature has faded somewhat and there are faint vertical lines running down the right of it (from the paper it was signed on). It has been taped to the back of the mat, together with the REPRO (see our image).
