The Notorious Sophie Lang, the 1934 Ralph Murphy jewel thief police crime romantic melodrama (based on the story by Frederick Irving Anderson; about a notorious female jewel thief who has spent years in England, but has now returned to New York City, and the detective who has been trying to trap her hires a handsome jewel thief to get the job done!) starring Gertrude Michael (in the title role as Sophie Lang), Paul Cavanagh, Arthur Byron, Alison Skipworth, and Leon Errol. Note that this was the first movie featuring this character (the other two were 1936's "The Return of Sophie Lang" and 1937's "Sophie Lang Goes West"). Note that Carole Lombard was Paramount's first choice to play the lead role, but she turned it down, so it went to Gertrude Michael instead.
