An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Austrian Movie Poster (measures 37 1/2" x 49 1/4") (Learn More) College, the classic 1927 James W. Horne & Buster Keaton silent romantic baseball track-and-field sports athlete higher education slapstick comedy ("Rah! Rah! Rah! Kiss... Boom... Bah! Keaton 'College' Hah! Hah! Hah!"; "The Intercollegiate Laugh Riot"; "Happiest of all Keaton Comedies"; "Nit-Wit and Big Wit of the party"; "'Go get 'em Buster - I'm with you: You've got brains and muscle too! Make 'em laugh And roar out load But watch me waving In the crowd.'"; "Highbrow Student and Sap Athlete"; about a bookworm college student whose girlfriend says she will dump him if he doesn't become an athlete, so he has to find a sport he can succeed in) starring Buster Keaton, Anne Cornwall, Flora Bramley, Harold Goodwin, and Snitz Edwards. Note that there is a great irony in the plot of this movie, which is that Buster Keaton was playing a young man hopeless at sports, when he was actually extremely coordinated and athletic, so he had difficulty pretending not to be! Some 30 years ago, there was a great find of Austrian posters, and in that find was this incomplete Austrian poster from "College". Because we have never seen another example of this poster, we have no idea of exactly how much is missing. However, the left and right borders appear complete, and it DOES seem that the top and bottom borders were neatly trimmed, but it seems possible that it was perhaps just a few inches trimmed from each border (especially because the movie was released as "Der Student" in Austria, so there is nothing missing from the title, and it seems possible that all that is missing is the top and bottom corners of the red background area, which looks like a pennant). Other than the trimming, the poster had tears in the borders and a few in the foldlines, and someone put white conservation tape on the back of those. Other than the above, the poster is in pretty nice condition, especially considering it is over 80 years old. If I owned this great poster, I would either have it backed exactly as it is, or have a restorer add in additional red and blue area at top and bottom, and I think this poster will look wonderful on anyone's wall. If anyone somehow HAS seen a complete example of this poster before, please let us know exactly what is missing, and the size it should have originally measured. Learn More about condition grades
