An Original 1951 (from the continuous first release of this movie; see below) Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More)

Destination Moon, the 1950 Irving Pichel science fiction (sci-fi) thriller ("Two years in the making!"; "See the screen's most heart-breaking farewell! Would you let your man fly to the moon?"; "See the pull of gravity crush them deep into their crash-couches as the space ship takes off as 32000 feet a second!"; "See man's greatest thrill as he finally sets foot on the moon!"; produced by George Pal; based on an original book and screenplay by Robert A. Heinlein, the superlatively talented science fiction writer who gave Hollywood a try and quit when he found they did not care about scientific accuracy, and that, under the Hollywood system at that time, promises were often made to writers, both financially and creatively, that were not kept!) starring John Archer, Warner Anderson, Tom Powers, Dick Wesson, and Erin O'Brien-Moore. Note that Robert Heinlein had become friendly with director Fritz Lang during World War II, and the two had planned to make a "space" movie together! But the project fell apart when Heinlein realized that Lang really wanted to have complete control of the project, which Heinlein would not accept, and he ended up signing a deal with George Pal, and that was still disappointing to him, and he never received all of the money he was promised either. But one wonders what that "Heinlein/Fritz Lang" movie would have been like! Also, Note that this movie was one of the very first of the 1950s science fiction movies (it would have been the first but production delays allowed Rocket Ship X-M to beat it), and it intended to accurately portray the first moon landing; at the time, people considered it wild science fiction, and yet it became science fact within 20 years!

Important Added Info: Note that there is an oddity to the first release one-sheets for this movie. The movie was released in August 1950, and there are one-sheets that have a copyright 1950 at bottom and a 1950 NSS number at lower right (50/205). That poster has a litho number of 6592. Apparently, the movie did so well at the box office that they ran out of one-sheets during its first release, and new one-sheets were printed that have a copyright 1951 at bottom and the same 1950 NSS number at lower right (50/205). But that poster has a litho number of 7232. Obviously, that second poster was printed either at the end of 1950 or early in 1951, and they changed the copyright and the litho number because it was a different printing, but changed nothing else because it was still from the continuous first release. We have not seen collectors place a different value on the two different versions (and most seem unaware of it), but for those who do put an importance on it, know that the poster with the 1950 copyright predates the poster with the 1951 copyright, but that both are from the first release of the movie.

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster had a diagonal tear starting at the top crossfold and extending down into the green background to the right of the ship. It is about 7" long. It had tiny paper loss at the crossfolds and some creases and tiny tears on parts of the folds, with some very minor border wear. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well!
