An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 28 1/2" x 41" [72 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) the double-bill release ("We dare you to see Dracula with Bela Lugosi and Frankenstein with Boris Karloff"; "We dare you to see them together"; "The double horror show of the century Can You Take It?") of Dracula, the classic 1931 Tod Browning Universal vampire monster horror thriller ("The Greatest of all Horror Thrillers"; based on the classic novel and play by Bram Stoker) starring Bela Lugosi (in the title role as Count Dracula), David Manners, Dwight Frye (if there had been a Best Supporting Actor Academy Award in 1931, Frye would have surely won it for his wild over-the-top portrayal as Renfield!), Helen Chandler, and Edward Van Sloan (as Professor Abraham Van Helsing) AND Frankenstein, the classic 1931 James Whale Universal monster horror thriller ("The monster that terrorized the world!"; "The Man Who Made a Monster"; "Based upon the Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley Story"; "Adapted by John L. Balderston from the play by Peggy Webling"; the first of the Universal "Frankenstein" movies, and regarded as one of the finer movies of any genre, in large part due to the marvelous acting of Boris Karloff, and the marvelous direction of James Whale!) starring Colin Clive, Boris Karloff (as the Frankenstein monster), Edward Van Sloan, Fredric Kerr, Mae Clarke, Dwight Frye (extremely memorable as Fritz), and John Boles If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have never seen this unusual double bill poster before, and because there is no studio information on the front (or small writing at the bottom), it is very difficult to date it. There is also no writing at all on the back of the poster, which can provide some clues when it is there. But the printing style and the paper quality leads us to think this is from the late 1940s at the latest, but one would think it is not from one of the Universal or Realart double bill re-releases, because their name would likely have been on the poster. If anyone knows more about this poster, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Note that this one-sheet measures 28 1/2" x 41" [72 x 104 cm].
UPDATED 10/31/2014: Note that an advance collector pointed out that this poster uses the same taglines as the 1938 double-bill posters from Universal. However, as this poster lacks any mention of a studio, we believe it was likely printed by a "Leader Press"-like company. Leader Press and similar companies printed posters for theaters that couldn't get the studio issued posters. Posters from these companies are far more rare than the regular studio issued posters. Condition: good. The poster has tears and areas of paper loss on the foldlines and in the borders, and the entire poster is somewhat fragile. But certainly, a talented restorer could linenback and restore this poster, and afterwards, it would display great! Learn More about condition grades
