An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Belgian Movie Poster (measures 14" x 18 3/4") (Learn More) Roy Rogers (born Leonard Slye, often referred to as the "King of the Cowboys") is considered one of the all-time top singing cowboy western actors (he started in movies in the 1930s and worked in film until the 1950s, often with The Sons of the Pioneers, and comedy sidekicks including Gabby Hayes and Andy Devine; in 1951, he transitioned to television and had a very successful TV show for six seasons) and was nearly always accompanied by his equally famous horse, Trigger. He had many female co-stars until he starred with Dale Evans, and they married, and remained married for over 50 years! He passed away in 1998 at the age of 86. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this poster has the title "Showboat du van Texas" for this Belgian release of a Roy Rogers movie! Apparently, in Belgium at this time, the word "Texas" was pretty much synonymous with "cowboy", and was stuck on to many westerns! Also note that this Belgian poster measures 14" x 18 3/4" and is linenbacked. Condition: good. The poster likely once had a blank top area which was neatly trimmed off. There were tears, creases, smudges, and areas of paper loss down the right edge of the poster extending into Rogers' shoulder and into the edge of his shirt along the edge of the border. There was actual paper loss in the middle of the right blank border. There were tears and creases and smudges in the lower part of the left border across much of the bottom border and in the top corners. There were two creases across the center of the poster. The person who backed the poster simply backed it "as is" and then added some blank paper to fill out the paper loss in the middle of the right blank border. If I owned this poster, I would likely have a restorer perform additional restoration to the poster without re-backing it, or I would have the poster re-backed. Learn More about condition grades
