An Unfolded Special Poster (measures 27 3/4" x 40" [70 x 102 cm]) (Learn More) the circa 1950s triple-bill release ("Grouch Chico Harpo") of A Night at the Opera, the classic 1935 Sam Wood screwball musical opera romantic comedy starring the Marx Brothers (Groucho Marx as Otis B. Driftwood, Chico Marx as Fiorello, and Harpo Marx as Tomasso), Kitty Carlisle (as Rosa Castaldi), Allan Jones (as Ricardo Baroni), Walter Woolf King (billed as "Walter King"; as Rodolfo Lassparri), Sig Ruman (as Herbert Gottlieb), and Margaret Dumont (as Mrs. Claypool). Note that MGM added a romantic plot to the Marx Bros. typical screwball comedy, and it really adds to the movie, as Carlisle and Jones have real chemistry together, and their songs are excellent. Of course, this is also the movie that has the Marx Bros.' most famous comedy scene, the "stateroom" scene, plus the great scene of Groucho and Chico attempting to sign a contract! AND At the Circus, the 1939 Edward Buzzell musical screwball comedy ("Keep the world laughing!") starring The Marx Brothers (Groucho Marx, Chico Marx, and Harpo Marx), Kenny Baker, Florence Rice, Eve Arden, Margaret Dumont, Nat Pendleton, and Charles Gemora (as Gibraltar the gorilla). Note that this was the movie where the Marx Brothers sing the song "Lydia the Tattooed Lady"! Also note that MGM initially was going to call this movie "A Day at the Circus" (to capitalize on the success of "A Day at the Races"), but that title was dropped (although it is on a few stills). There was a working title of "Marx Bros At the Circus" that is also on some stills, but not the 1939 posters or lobby cards. To make things confusing, when MGM re-released the movie in 1962, the advertising made it look like the title of the movie was "Marx Bros At the Circus". AND The Big Store, the 1941 Charles Reisner screwball comedy ("Gorgeous Girls! Uproarious Fun!"; "The Big Musical Show!"; "'Let there be wine, women and song. On second thought... Never mind the wine and the song!'"; about a singer who inherits a department store, and she hires a detective to protect her from its crooked manager) starring The Marx Brothers (Groucho Marx [as Wolf J. Flywheel], Chico Marx [as Ravelli], and Harpo Marx [as Wacky]), Tony Martin, Virginia Grey, Margaret Dumont, Douglass Dumbrille, Marion Martin, Henry Armetta, and Ann Demitrio. Important Added Info: Note that this poster is a bit of an oddity. It measures 27 3/4" x 40" and it has been hand-painted at bottom. It is some type of stock poster for Marx Brothers movies, but we do not know exactly when or where it was produced. If anyone knows more about this poster, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Condition: good. The poster has darkened substantially and it has some discoloration mainly at bottom (see our image). The three titles at bottom have been hand-painted.
