A Hand Painted Movie Poster (measures 27" x 38" [69 x 97 cm]) (Learn More) The Shock Punch, the 1925 Paul Sloane romantic boxing sports iron worker construction big business silent melodrama ("From the story by John Monk Saunders"; about a young man who is encouraged by his father to be trained as a boxer to make him tough, and he also gets a job working on the construction of a high rise building, and he both uncovers a plot to sabotage the building, and he falls in love with the daughter of the building owner!; the title refers to his infamous "shock punch" that he has while boxing which can knock out anyone!) starring Richard Dix, Frances Howard, Theodore Babcock, Percy Moore, Charles Byer, and Gunboat Smith. Note that female lead Frances Howard had appeared in just two movies prior to this one. Producer Samuel Goldwyn managed to convince her to marry him less than one month after this movie was released, at which point she retired (with the exception of one movie in 1935), and she remained married to Goldwyn until his death 50 years later. Oddly, she is supposed to have a life-long love for gay director George Cukor, and when she died two years after Goldwyn, she was buried next to Cukor! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this is one of four original paintings that were created for a local theater in the 1920s. At that time, theaters would often hire local artists to create hand painted individual posters for newly released movies (the most famous of these was Batiste Madelena, who created hundreds of such posters for the Eastman Theatre in Rochester, New York, between 1924 and 1928). Many of these posters were painted on a heavy poster board, and they are often around a one-sheet size. This poster was created on a heavy board and must be sent in a very large flat package, so bear that cost of shipping in mind before placing a bid on this poster. Condition: fair. The painting is on a heavy poster board and will need to be shipped flat. It is very fragile, more so around the edges, and it has cracks, tears, small paper loss, and surface paper loss around the edges, more so across the bottom 2". There is much staining scattered in the image. It definitely needs restoration, but afterward, it will look quite nice. But do not bid on this poster unless you can accept its condition defects, its need of restoration, and the cost of shipping it in a very large flat package. Learn More about condition grades
