Artist: Bob McCall Important Added Info: Note that we have auctioned many, many special posters from 2001, but until we were consigned this "astronauts" style lenticular poster, we had never auctioned it before (see below). Also note that MGM and Stanley Kubrick wanted to do really innovative promotional material for this movie, and one of the things they did was create lenticular postcards for this movie! There were two styles of postcard, one showing the astronauts, and the other showing the space wheel. They also made a 10 1/2" x 13 1/2" special poster size version of both the space wheel and the astronauts, and also a 23 1/4" x 33" special poster size version of the space wheel (they are on a stiff material that could not possibly be rolled). This auction is for the 10 1/2" x 13 1/2" astronauts lenticular, which we only auctioned once before, and it sold for $2,400. BUT THERE IS A DIFFERENCE ABOUT THIS LENTICULAR. The earlier one had nothing on the back, and this one has a easel backing attached to it. If it was attached when the poster was first made, then this was created in two different versions. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. This lenticular standee has a really wonderful lenticular effect that is of course very hard to photograph! Believe me that when you see it in person you will be impressed, but of course, only the high bidder will see it in person! Condition: very good. The front of the lenticular standee has some scuffs scattered in it, which has been true of every other lenticular poster like this I have seen. They are not very distracting at all from any reasonable viewing distance. The easel backing it missing the right side that folds out, but one could easily replace that portion with a piece of cardboard cut to the right size (see our images).
