Date Sold 4/16/2023Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 10 7/8" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) London After Midnight (released in England as "The Hypnotist"), the 1927 Tod Browning silent Scotland Yard detective murder mystery hypnotism horror thriller ("Sherlock Holmes is good.... but just wait till you see - Lon Chaney in London After Midnight"; "A man of a thousand faces in a great detective thriller!"; "Story by Tod Browning"; Chaney is a detective who is trying to solve a "cold case" murder, and because he is an accomplished hypnotist as well, he is able to hypnotize the principals and have them reenact the crime, which reveals who the murderer was; the vampire part of the movie comes from neighbors who are suspected of having committed the murder because they are vampires, and in the movie's most memorable scene, Chaney disguises himself as a vampire!) starring Lon Chaney Sr. (in his first and only role as a vampire!), Marceline Day, Henry B. Walthall, Percy Williams, Conrad Nagel, Polly Moran, Edna Tichenor, and Claude King. Note that this is a "lost movie", and surely the most famous lost movie there is. Many many people have spent a very long time searching for a print of this movie, and hopefully it will turn up some day! Also, note that this film was remade as Mark of the Vampire in 1935. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that first release movie paper of any kind from this classic lost horror movie is beyond rare. We had never auctioned any first release movie paper other than stills (and a herald, which auctioned for $542) from this movie until we were consigned this lobby card in 2015! The person who bought it then for $1,000 has reconsigned it to us, so it is still the only lobby card we have ever auctioned from this movie! Condition: good to very good. The top blank border was very neatly trimmed at a slight diagonal (the card measures 10 7/8" in the left edge and 10 5/8" at the right edge). There is a thin strip of paper loss in the upper right border, for 1 1/2" (see our image). There is a pair of staple holes in the center of the top border and the right 3/4" of the card was very slightly folded back. Someone put a small piece of tape on the back of the lower left border, but it was not put there for a restoration purpose. Other than the above defects, which I think most people would view as quite minor, the card is in nice condition, and it never had any sort of restoration. This is a very rare opportunity to acquire a first release lobby card, and it has Chaney both in the border and in the main scene! Learn More about condition grades
