An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked British Quad Movie Poster (BQ; Quad Crown; measures 30" x 40" [76 x 102 cm]) (Learn More) The Man in the White Suit, the classic 1951 (released in the U.S. in 1952) Alexander Mackendrick Ealing Studios English science fiction (sci-fi) fantasy comedy ("Gadzooks! ...it's Guinness again!"; "Curie, Edison, Einstein... And now Alec Guinness as 'The Man in the White Suit'"; "Ealing Studios present another comedy"; about a man who invents fabric that never gets dirty or wears out, and how the garment industry tries to suppress it) starring Alec Guinness ("Britain's Top Comedian will have you in stitches"), Joan Greenwood, Cecil Parker, Michael Gough, and Ernest Thesiger NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: A.R. Thomson & S. John Woods Important Added Info: Note that this poster, which is a "country of origin" poster for this classic English Ealing comedy starring Alec Guinness, is the extremely rare first release British quad! We have only once before auctioned this first release British quad, six years ago, and that example sold for $5,011 (in "good to very good" condition, with creases and tears around the edges and small paper loss at the crossfolds and in one part of the border). That example has now been reconsigned to us, so it is still the only example we have ever auctioned! Incidentally, we are certain this is from the very first English release, because when we auctioned the first one, we checked with Sim Branaghan, the world's leading authority on British posters, and he assured us that it was absolutely from the first release. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster had some creases and small tears in parts of the borders (more so in the top left corner), with tiny paper loss in the right of the top border, and diagonal creases in the corners. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well, although you can see slight signs of the border restoration.
