An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Italian Four-Panel Movie Poster (4p; measures 78 1/4" x 109 1/2" [199 x 278 cm]) (Learn More) French Cancan (also released in the U.S. as an edited version under the title "Jean Renoir's Only the French Can"), the 1955 Jean Renoir French/Italian Moulin Rouge romantic musical dance comedy (about a theater producer who turns a maid into a star at the famous French musical revue, Moulin Rouge) starring Jean Gabin, Francoise Arnoul, Maria Felix, Edith Piaf, Patachou, Andre Claveau, Jean Raymond, and Franco Pastorino NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Ercole Brini Important Added Info: Note that this poster, which is a "country of origin" poster for this partially Italian movie, is incredibly rare! Not only have we never auctioned it before, but the only other Italian posters we have auctioned from this movie were a photobusta and a 3-panel, which was horizontal and mostly text, while this 4-panel has incredible Brini art of a Moulin Rouge showgirl! In addition, we were also consigned a French 4-panel for this same movie, but with a completely different image, and that too is a "country of origin" poster, because the movie was a co-production from France and Italy (and that is in a separate auction). Also note that this Italian four-panel measures 78 1/4" x 109 1/2" [199 x 278 cm], but it has not been trimmed. Finally, note that this Italian four-panel was printed in 4 sections designed to overlap. Condition: very good. There are some tears and tiny paper loss on parts of some folds and in parts of the borders, with slight darkening on parts of all folds (see our image). There are some tiny circular stamps from a poster exchange that had the poster, but they are in the white background areas. I would say that this poster has likely survived in as good condition as one could have hoped, given its age and its very large size, and after a simple linenbacking, it will look incredible!
